Baby sleeping in a cot wearing a sleeping bag
How Do I Choose a Safe Sleep Bag?

Sleep bags are a great way of keeping your baby at a comfortable temperature while sleeping

How to choose the correct sleep bag:

  • Choosing the right sleep bag reduces the risk of overheating and sudden and unexpected infant death (SUDI).
  • You can avoid overheating by dressing your baby for the temperature of their room.
  • The Thermal Overall Grade or TOG rating shows the amount of warmth a sleep bag provides, from a low of 0.2 to a high of 3.5. Use a low rating bag in warmer weather and a high rating bag when its colder.
  • Follow the guide on the product to select the best bag for the weather.
  • Make sure the sleep bag is the right size for baby to stop the bag covering baby’s face and head.  Always place them on their back to sleep with their head and face uncovered.

Choose a lower TOG for warmer weather and a higher TOG for cooler weather.

“I found meeting people in real life who were going through a similar journey helped me greatly. It was so healing to be able to support one another, listen to and share our experiences without judgement or anyone feeling uncomfortable. Without a doubt the peer support I received through Red Nose immensely helped me mentally and emotionally during the times that I needed it the most”
